Abnormal Loads Transportation
The most important thing for any haulage firm is to ensure that we are transporting, loading and unloading in the most controlled and secure way possible. To guarantee that we optimise the transport plans & execute projects effectively, we will consider things like which routes and times have limited traffic, which roads are suitable and how best to manoeuvre your abnormal load onto the site. We’ll ordinarily plan to transport abnormal loads during quieter times on the road – this avoids any traffic delays as well as safety issues.
Occasionally, the police or traffic officers may stop abnormal loads and check that the correct procedures and requirements have been carried out. We ensure we have all relevant paperwork to hand, to reduce delays and keep your cargo moving to its destination.
Additional time should always be planned into any project to allow for any required documentation or permissions to be obtained. Often, these can take between 2 days to 10 weeks, depending on the type of cargo, the project and the route. Travelling through road works, restricted zones or city/town centres can often require roads to be temporarily closed, something we will need to plan and agree with local officials.
Most abnormal loads will require escort vehicles, which we can provide. The reason for the escort vehicle is to help direct our vehicles, but also to alert other traffic to the fact that there is an abnormal load and to be vigilant. Where abnormal loads are classed as ‘Uncommon Orders’ a Police escort will be required, a service which the Police will charge for. We will be in continuous contact with the Police and will ensure that any additional costs are accounted for in the planning of your project.
Abnormal Load Regulations
We can transport an abnormal load through busy town or city centre streets, but a lot of this is dependant upon various regulations. Over-loading a vehicle is illegal and can result in heavy fines as well as potentially even prosecution. We will always clarify all regulations, the kinds of vehicles beings used and ensure that we have the right paperwork and most appropriate transport for your project.
Where possible, a load should be split and transported within an assigned weight limit, however, we agree that there are often times where weight limits are impossible to follow. An aeroplane wing, for example, cannot be dismantled for transportation. In these cases, we can ensure that all abnormal load regulations are met by changing routes or even altering the vehicle the load will be transported on.
We will ensure that we have the correct equipment and route to transport your oversized load, from military weapons to mobile homes, we have the experience and know-how to ensure your cargo arrives promptly and securely.
